Frequently Asked Questions

What is the new EPF wage ceiling in 2026?

The statutory EPF wage ceiling was raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month with effect from 17 September 2026 (notification S.O. 5109(E)). It applies to EPF, EPS and EDLI. Contribution rates did not change.

How is PF calculated?

Employee contributes 12% of Basic + DA. The employer also contributes 12%: 8.33% (on wages up to the ceiling) goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and the balance goes to the EPF account. The employer additionally pays 0.5% EDLI and 0.5% admin charges.

What is the maximum EPS contribution now?

With the ₹25,000 ceiling, the maximum EPS contribution is 8.33% × ₹25,000 = ₹2,083 per month (earlier ₹1,250 on ₹15,000).

How was September 2026 handled?

Since the new ceiling applies from 17 September 2026, payroll teams either split September (₹15,000 ceiling for 1–16 Sep and ₹25,000 from 17 Sep) or follow EPFO's specific ECR guidance. Use the period selector to calculate each part.

Is PF mandatory for employees earning above ₹25,000?

For new joiners whose PF wages exceed the ceiling at joining, PF membership is not mandatory. Existing members continue. Employers and employees can also contribute on full wages voluntarily.

What interest does EPF earn?

EPF interest for FY 2025-26 is 8.25% a year, credited annually and calculated on the monthly running balance.

Is this the official EPFO calculator?

No. It is a free, unofficial tool by XoMB HR. Always follow EPFO circulars and the ECR portal for actual remittance.
